Hello. Here is what is free, what is Beta, and what comes next
BrainsMade is a small site for people who like a well-made test: a few quiet minutes, a result that says something, and no surprise afterwards. This first note says where things stand.
What you can do today
Three tests are live, and every one of them is free, with no account and no card:
- Big Five. Fifty statements from the public-domain IPIP-50, scored exactly as published. You get five scale scores, each with a band that says where your answers sit on the scale, and a short reading per trait.
- 16 Types. Sixty statements of our own, four leanings, a type name we came up with rather than a trademark, and a note when a leaning is too close to call.
- Reasoning Challenge, in Beta. Thirty items in four sections, twenty minutes. You get the number you answered correctly, in total and per section.
The result is yours the moment you finish. Signing in only saves it; paying, when there is anything to pay for, only unlocks a deeper report.
Why the reasoning test says Beta
Because we have not earned more than that yet. An IQ number, a percentile or a confidence interval needs a calibrated item bank and a reference sample in your language, reviewed for what it actually measures and whom it represents. Until that exists, the page shows correct answers and nothing more, and the rule is enforced on the server, so no share card or preview can say more than the page. What comes next, in order
- Watching real people take the Big Five, in English and in Chinese, and fixing what trips them up.
- Chinese versions of the questions themselves, through translation, back-translation and interviews, not a quick pass through a translator.
- A one-time report, sold as one time, with the amount in large type before you pay. The trust page already says how paying, cancelling and your data will work.
- Calibration, as answers accumulate, and only then any talk of norms.
